THANKSGIVING AND FAMILY 2011

This year was my year for Thanksgiving dinner. We had beautiful weather so we decided to do some family pictures, something Mike just hates. Believe it or not, he said he had a ball doing the pictures. Our nephew, Scott, just took some informal pics and I think he did a very good job considering all the babies we have in the group. I am very thankful for everyone of my kids and their families (including the dogs). They make me so happy everyday and I have been very blessed!

There's Nothing Like Fall....

It used to be that I didn't like fall...just because my yards seemed to get messy and leaves all over the place, but then I decided to think in a different way. I need to see the beauty of all seasons. Fall is when the wonderful Kochia weeds are 6 feet high, but they do get pretty when it freezes and they too change colors. Fall is when my flower beds are covered with all the leaves blown in from my trees, the neighbors trees and in Delta, the leaves could be from Milford too. hee hee.. Fall is when your mornings are chilly and the afternoons are unbelievably beautiful, then chilly evenings. Fall is when we try to get in all the last out door activities before the snow falls. Fall is the wonderful smells of Pinenuts roasting, dust from the corn fields being harvested, hot cider, and soups! Fall is 4 birthdays of the granddaughters. I have added lots of fall pictures from our family (of course mostly the little girls). I am loving FALL!!!

We spent Conference Weekend down south...The weather was unusually hot but after the change in temps this week, I am missing the warmth already. The St. George Marathon was October 1st, and Susan has been training hard to run it. It turned out that it landed right on Riley's birthday, but I don't think that Riley minded too much. That was the first marathon Mike and I have been to and it was really amazing. They capped the race off at 7400 runners and the city of St. George was packed with people. Susan did awesome, she came in at 5 hours and 9 minutes. Pretty neat when you think that last year at this time, she was bringing baby Riley into the world. She is not the only one with the love/hate of running, Deanna ran a half marathon in Cedar a couple of weeks ago and her baby was only 2-1/2 months old. I am so in awe of these girls and I want them to know how proud we are of them. The pictures are just a few of my favorite subjects, I can't get enough of the granddaughters!

Today we celebrate the second birthday of the twins. We are so blessed to have these two little girls in our lives. Modern technology has come so far in helping save little infants such as Haley and Kelly. Even today, Mike and I, just look at the two of them and count our blessings that we have them. Susan and Jared have been really busy taking care of the twins, besides having another baby right after them 12-1/2 months later (there again another miracle). They are truly beautiful! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HALEY & KELLY...

FISHING IN MEXICO

Mike just got home from a fishing trip to Loreto, Mexico. Mark wanted to do another fishing tournament (Fishin' for the Mission) so he called Mike and said let's go.... You don't have to beg Mike to leave the farm for some good fish; although it was very hot, about 103 degrees with all the humidity, it felt like 125 degrees. The fishing was very good, lots of Durado and Sail Fish and some Marlin. We're just so happy that Mark has the home, boat and friends to make for a wonderful vacation!

We have a New Baby...

We have a new Granddaughter....That makes 6 beautiful little girls! Chase and DeAnna had their little Kinley Christensen on June 29th. She weighed in at 6 lbs. and 13 oz. She is just beautiful and you will just have to take my word for it. The only camera I had at the hospital was my phone and I don't know how to get the pictures off of it for my blog. I need help!!! Pictures will follow.

The RV8 is DONE!!!

I just had to post this latest additions to our family...For nearly 9 years, Mike has been working on building his own experimental airplane...Called a RV-8. Mike and I went to Oregon and bought the initial kit and started from there. Thousands of rivits, thousands of nuts and bolts, and lots of frustration and work, we have finally finished. Mike started flying the plane in 2007 and we loved it but it was just the silver metal color and looked pretty plain. In April of this year, we flew the RV down to Kingman, Arizona and had it painted. Mike chose the color scheme and I think that it turned out so nice. (Pretty good for a color- blind pilot) Jake flew us down to pick it up last week so I had to take some pictures of him flying next to us on our way home. I am not really a lover of flying, but I am so proud of Mike and just knowing that he built his own airplane is really quite something. He had lots of help from the kids and a good friend, George LaDamas. We have all been there to cheer him on and excited to see his finished project. Way to Go, Mike!!!

EASTER 2011

Is it ever going to get warm this year??? We did our Easter in Delta this year simply because we wanted to spend it with the kids. They were all wanting to come home to Delta and spend time with their other families. We were happy to accommodate them. The weather was quite chilly but we made the most of it anyway. On Saturday morning we did our Easter Egg Hunt and the kids really got into it. They were all required to have one of the Granddaughters with each couple...Jared and Susan were happy to lend one of their girls to Todd and Staci and to Tara and Derek. Jake got left out but he wasn't really into Egg Hunting anyway. We also went to the Sandhills this year and I couldn't believe how much the little girls loved rolling eggs down the hills and just sliding down themselves. We had so much fun just watching the kids...maybe we will have to restart the Christensen tradition and go the the Sandhills every year!

I know you think I posted this picture in January....Noooooo it is April 8th and nothing has changed since then at our house. Millard County has really strange Springs, it is always so unpredictable. We have had very strong winds and unexpected snow storms for the last 3 months. Somewhere under all that snow is alot of green just waiting to grow. Meanwhile, down south in Mesquite, I just had fun planting some of my favorite plants. I really love my Bougainvillea plants, Lantana, Miniture Bottle Brush, and Mexican Bird of Paradise, lots of different plants that I can't plant in Delta. I just keep telling my self that pretty soon I will be planting my flower pots at home. It has been a long winter!

It is hard to believe that another New Year is upon us. Our family has changed and we have grown in many aspects. I was counting the other day and I have 7 of my kids in college this year. I have 5 beautiful granddaughters and 3 very busy moms. My baby is all married and out on her own (and might I add that she is loving it). Tara and Derek are finally settled in their own place and busy with school. This is Tara's last year of school.. Hooray!!! Derek has a little more schooling to go, but Tara will be able to help put him through. Meghann has 2- 1/2 more years of school but she is loving it. She does very well, her goal is to pass her tests on every other Friday so that she doesn't have to go to school every other Monday. She scores an average of 99%. Jake is busy working on the farm. He is enjoying putting his skills into markets and futures. Jared is busy teaching school in St. George and helping Susan keep up with their 3 little girls. Chase is heading into another Tax Season but liking his job. DeAnna is heading back to school herself. She is going to Evans Cosmetology School in Cedar City. AJ is still going to school to get his Masters and working for Lehi City and being Mr. Mom for Sienna while Meghann is at school. Todd and Staci are working and going to school...Staci will be applying for Nursing School in March. We will also be adding another new Grandchild in June. I don't know what 2011 has in store for us, but we are anxious to find out.

Just yesterday, Jared and Susan reminded Mike and I that it was a year ago that they had brought the twins home from the hospital. What little miracles these two little girls are. Might I say that they are just the cutest little girls too. Their little personalities are coming out so cute and I just love them to pieces. We now have 5 little Granddaughters with one more baby on the way. We don't know if it is a boy or a girl, but we are excited all the same. Chase and DeAnna are expecting...due in June. Congratulations to you all! I have just added a few pictures of the last few weeks to keep everyone up with all that goes on in the Christensen Family. Jakes favorite picture is him combining Grandpas corn field.

We are adding another new member to our family. Tara and Derek are getting married in December (the 18th to be exact). We are very excited and happy to have Derek in our family. He is such an awesome person and just what Tara needs. Derek is from Delta also; he and Tara were the same age in school. They didn't date in High School but they were always good friends. Derek came home from his mission in Brazil and attended UVU, Tara was already up there going to school and working. The rest is history!

We welcome the newest member to our family, little miss Riley Christensen was born 10/01/10 at 7:08 a.m. She weighed in at 7 lbs. 8 oz. We are so proud and excited for Jared and Susan, they have such a cute little family. The twins are not quite sure what it is that is making funny noises in that blanket, but I am sure these three little girls will become the very best of friends. Sisters are the best!!!

Today was Meghann's "White Coat Ceremony". She has officially started Pharmacy School. I am sure it will be a hard 3 years for her, but if she and AJ will remember that "This Too Shall Pass", (one of Grandma Bills' favorite sayings) they will come out being more than ALL RIGHT and their hard work will be ohhhh so worth it. Remember, your dad and I are here to help. Congratulations Sweetie!!!

MY, HOW THE CORN DOES GROW...

Earlier in the year I mentioned that Mike and I have leased Dad's Farm. We have been excited to see his farm grow corn for the first time that Dad can remember. Boy, did it grow corn!!! There were days when dad thought he could just sit and watch it rise higher and higher. We are getting pretty close to harvest, the lush green will turn to ugly brown; but it was worth everything to see Dad so happy with his farm.

As most of you know, Tara is in Dental Hygiene School. She is now to the stage where SHE NEEDS PATIENTS!!!! So anyone who really would like a good cleaning for ONLY $5.00, P L E A S E get a hold of her. I am excited to be one of her patients, but I live too far away to be there every day she needs patients. It's a really good deal for anyone needing a cleaning, the last time I went it costs me over $100 at my dentist. She is at UCDH in Orem so give me or Tara a call.

Out with the Old and In with the New...

You know it seems just like yesterday when Jake and Jared had a toy replica of a John Deere combine. OMG those two boys would combine the carpet in my house all day long. Jake could even imitate the sound of a combine pretty darn good. Well today is wheat harvest time and Jake is harvesting in the real thing. It might not be the combine of his dreams but I'm sure I can see a smile on his face with this machine. It is hard to believe that our forefathers used sickles and stacking grain in bundles all by hand. Today all we have to do is sit and listen to your favorite radio station in the air-conditioned cab and get about 40-60 acres harvested a day.

America The Beautiful...

I haven't done a lot of traveling, but I found out that you don't have to go very far to find the most beautiful wonders of the world. Right in our back yard is the Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, Jackson Hole, the wonderful farms in Idaho, Wyoming, Montana and Utah. Mike and I just took a few days and did a road trip to places that I have never seen. We got to see the Bar J Wranglers in Jackson Hole (great entertainment). Believe it or not, I have never seen Yellowstone. I have seen many buffalo, elk, & deer but nothing like the way you see them in Yellowstone. I have seen rivers, but nothing like the rivers in Yellowstone. For 4 days we just relaxed and took in the sights and gabbed with good friends.

Barbara, Grandma Barbara and Mom has turned 80 years old. As with tradition, we have to have a big party bash. Barbara wasn't to hip on the idea but then she does love a party. All the kids, grandkids, and good friends made it for the special occasion. What a great life Barbara has had and better than that a really wonderful posterity. As of this year, Barbara has 23 grandchildren with 13 grandchildren in-law, she has 21 great grandchildren with 4 more in the ovens... CONGRATULATIONS,

JUST FOR ME...

Yep, this one is for me...of course you can read it too. I just don't want to ever forget this .
Three years ago my Dad decided that he was getting to old and tired to keep up the demanding work of farming. It has been hard for him to let others take care of his farms, but he has endured. Little by little my sisters and I have seen just how hard it has been for him to let go of farming. My Dad is such a proud man and he has been a good farmer...it just runs in his blood...it's just what he knows and knows well. This year, Mike and I decided that we needed to take over Dad's farm and get it back to the kind of farm that Dad has always had. It has been interesting because Mike farms a little different than dad. Mike has no patience for canvas dams and several outlets on every dike, so we tore up Dad's ditches and put in the trusty "red gates". We put pig slats on every gate so we had a way to get across the ditch without walking clear around the ditch. Really and truly, we did it to make it convenient and easier on Dad. I am sure Dad was thinking "What in the Hell are these guys doing to my Farm". But it was funny too, because for some reason my Dad started to pick up his feet and walk a little lighter and much faster. I am sure I see more sparkle in his eyes too.
This week, we started irrigating...something both Mike and I were worried about. We wanted the fields to water straight and the ditch to hold. The first day we sent the water down the field, we tried to figure just how long it would take to water. We spent hours waiting and waiting. Jake, Mike and I were sitting at the end of the dike, trying to guess if it would finish if we turned it, when we saw dad coming up the road behind us in his truck. He pulls up to the side of us and says, "I already changed the water". No sense waiting at the end of the dike! Lo and behold, the water finished to perfection and Dad was hired. We didn't do this to give Dad work, but I think he is really enjoying being back in to action. He and his little truck can be seen going round and round that farm all day long (starting at 7:30 am). I think he is loving it!!! I can't wait for him to see his farm all green and producing again. My dad is the greatest man and I am proud to be his daughter. I Love you Dad!!!

BRAGGING RIGHTS

We have someone very special in our family...she has had a year like no other. Truly, when I tell you all about her year, you will feel the same.
Today, Susan got her official Masters of Education Degree. It was only a year ago that she started her Masters Program. It was only a year ago that she also was going through IVF. She started off doing pretty good until late July, when she started to have complications with her pregnancy...little Haley wanted to jump the gate at 23 weeks. Susan was then put on bed rest in the hospital for 7 weeks. Then when the babies were 30 weeks, they decided (the twins) that it was time for their appearance in the world (09-09-09). They were born C-Section at only 2+ pounds each. Susan kept a constant visitation schedule at the hospital until the twins were 2 months old. On November 9th, the girls got to come home. Oh, and by the way did I mention it was a new home. Susan had to move in and decorate before the girls arrived home.
Then sometime in January, Susan was surprised with more news...she is pregnant. As most young mothers know...sleep is something you only dream about when you have a new baby let alone twin babies. I honestly don't know any one who can handle all that in a year but Susan has and she has never complained or suggested dropping her schooling. She has done everything a young lady could possibly do and then some. I have heard many who have gone back to school to get their Masters... they were so deep in writing papers and studying for that time in their lives they had little time for anything else. We are so proud of all that Susan has accomplished and want her to know how excited we are for her. Congratulations, Susan...We Love You!!!

GENERATIONS...

Today we traveled to Cedar City for Chloe's blessing. We love any excuse to get together and see each other. Chase and DeAnna have a nice home and offered a wonderful dinner to all. We were happy to see Grandma Barbara and Dale. They have been gone for 5 months with the exception of 4 days at Christmas time. Chloe is so blessed to have so many Grandparents. She has Great Grandparents on both sides. They all seem to be healthy too.

I know, I am posting a little late; but the weather has finally turned nice and I am loving being outside and working in my yard. I sort of hate the first lawn mowing of the year...with all the dog poop and whatever, but it sure refreshes the soul to see that first touch of green. We had Easter in Mesquite this year, but the weather wasn't always too cooperative. The guys went golfing all day Saturday...the girls just lounged around the pool and waited for the guys to come to the 12th hole. When they finally got there, they were expecting us to make them a sandwich and pass over the cold drinks...WHAT DO THEY THINK WE ARE....Tara didn't like their thinking at all, she just told them to go buy something from the little gal that comes along selling food...we are busy tanning!!! Sunday, we had a great Easter Egg Hunt...for the adults...Before I could tell them the rules, they were scattered all over the place. When the dust settled, they had two eggs that weren't found...sad thing was that the Easter Bunny couldn't remember where she hid the eggs...IT HAD ONLY BEEN AN HOUR! The kids think it is time for the CC (Care Center).

Last weekend we finally had all 4 granddaughters together. Jared and Susan blessed their two little girl, Haley and Kelly. What a blessing these two have been to our lives. They have taught us so much in so little time. Mostly, they have taught us patience. They might have had a early start on life but they are catching up so fast. They are perfect!!! Chloe is a delight, she is our quiet one...maybe because she is the smallest. She isn't very big but her cute little face speaks volumes.
Sienna is so busy, she isn't going to let life pass her by. Her mommy is busy trying to pick a school to go to for Pharmacy. Meg has been accepted into University of Utah and University of Southern Nevada....big decision! Susan just gave us a big announcement...she is expecting!!! She and Jared are going to be very busy. Congratulations you guys!!!

THE SONG REMEMBERS WHEN....

Just the other day, I was working in my kitchen and on the TV I heard an advertisement about
Carole King and James Taylor coming to SLC for a concert. They were singing parts of
their old songs on this add...then she started singing: "...it's too late baby, now it's
too late, though I really did try to make it. Something is inside
just died and I can't ...." so on and so forth! This just
spurred a weird memory for me... bear with me:
I'm not even sure how old I was
but my cousin, Dave, had

up for softball
practice
we were sitting
in the back seat of his
car and he had the radio on real
loud. This Carole King song was blasting
over the radio and I was just a singing along with it
totally oblivious to anything going on. All of a sudden, Dave just
flipped off the radio and there I was singing to the top of my lungs all by my
self. I was so embarrassed and all Dave could do was laugh and laugh. I love my cousins, but those older boys really had a way of making us younger ones look and feel silly! I think it is so neat the way music can bring back memories some 40 years ago.

HOLA FROM MEXICO

We just got back from a great week in Loreto. It was a good week for fishing and sunning and eating. Mark and Bonnie really spoiled us. The fishing was good as long as the wind didn't blow (I guess fish are like me, they don't like wind either!) The sunrise in the morning is unbelievable. We get up at 5:00 in the morning to catch our bate before the sun comes up. The pelicans really love fishermen, maybe they just love the fish that the fishermen catch. On one day we caught 10 Yellow Tail Tuna...we brought 6 of them in to eat. I have lots in my freezer now.
Bonnie has all of us looking for Sea Glass whenever we walk the beach. It is kind of addicting.
It is a bummer to have to go home, but it is nice to get back to the real world too.

WE HAD SO MUCH FUN PUTTING THE GIRLS TOGETHER. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THAT SIENNA HAS BEEN ABLE TO GET THIS CLOSE TO THE TWINS AND THEY DIDN'T EVEN SEEM TO MIND. WE JUST DIDN'T THINK THAT CHLOE WOULD LIKE IT YET.

CHLOE WAS GETTING SO TIRED OF PICTURES THAT SHE IS ALITTLE CROSS EYED OVER THE LIGHTS. CHLOE TURNED 3 WEEKS OLD .

THE SMITH'S COME TO TOWN

Last week, we got the pleasure of having AJ, Meg and Sienna come stay with us in Mesquite. As you can tell, flying wasn't the highlight of their trip. But the sun was a huge plus.

We had fun, going to the duck pond and feeding the ducks and birds...we went for walks and checked out the neighborhood.

Sienna has a new expression, when you asked her to show her "funny face" she really puckers up. We are not really sure where this came from. But it sure is cute. Grandma has a hard time warming up, but when I do get my chance, it is picture time.

I LOOKED OUT THE WINDOW AND WHAT DID I SEE...

Oh, how I wished it was popcorn popping on my apricot tree...that would mean Spring is here. But instead it is hundreds of Snow Geese. They are back!!! We planted fall grain around the house and they are loving the green stuff. Hopefully it doesn't kill the plant and ruin our crop, so far they haven't hurt anything except where they pad the wet ground down with their webbed feet. It is fun to watch them. In a couple of weeks, there is a big one or two day hunt to kill some of them off before they head up north. I say "Fly Geese Fly...NOW"

picture of Chloe is taken when she was two days old.

This picture of Sienna was taken when she is 15 months old and the twins are almost 5 months old.

Sienna has finally found out how to get into Grandma's candy drawer, but she really likes the pasta shells more than the candy.

The twins are growing, not real fast, but they are now 9 lbs 2 oz and 9 lbs 6 oz. Haley has outgrown Kelly, but they are staying pretty much together in size. They are going to be blessed on March 7 in Oak City.

We have been so very blessed in our family!

TARA TURNS 21

Last week, my baby turned 21. She was determined to hit the city of Las Vegas and try her hand at gambling...needless to say she didn't come out a winner...surprise, surprise!! She had fun all the same. Tara, Christy, Katie, and Derek all made the trip and saw the sights. Tara thought that she could be a winner like her mother at Wheel of Fortune but she only got two spins and ended up spending her winnings.

I am so proud of Tara...she is a good girl and has really great friends.
She just needs to know that all those Casinos were built so elaborate on everyones losses!!!

Happy Holidays and Joyous New Year!!

As I reflect on the past year, I have to count my blessings for soooo much! In my blog, I have shown many pictures of my darling grandkids, but I need to talk about and show my own kids alittle more. I will do better in the coming year. I will do a little recap for the past year....
First of all: Mike and I enjoyed a great cruise to the Panama Canal and countries in Central America. It was awesome and we enjoyed it with great friends. In February, Todd and Staci got engaged. We were so happy to add Staci to our family. In April, Jared and Susan announced that they were having twins. I can't tell you how happy we were to hear this for Jared and Susan had been trying to have children for quite sometime. On May 15, Todd and Staci were married in St. George. It was a very beautiful day and a indescribable setting. We are so proud of the two of them. In June, we were told we were getting another new baby. Chase and DeAnna are pregnant. They are due in January 2010. Susan and Jared found out that the twins are girls. How much more can a mother be blessed with. In July, Susan threatened to lose the babies and was therefore put down to bed rest for what would be 7 weeks. On September 9th (09-09-09), the baby girls were born. The babies were only 30 weeks and 2 lbs. plus . All is good!!! In October, Sienna turned one! In November, Tara got accepted in to UCDH...Utah College of Dental Hygene. She will start in May 2010. The twins were released from the hospital (11/09). AJ started his masters program in Business Administration in December. Jake is happy just being a farmer and hanging out with all the other farmers in the area.

Isn't it interesting how children can make a great photo opp. with anything they do. Sienna really loves our big dog Gus, but only thru the windows. She is happy to give Gus a kiss as long as there is glass between them.

Last Easter, the Easter Bunny gave Sienna this bunny...today it is her best friend. She doesn't go anywhere with out it. When she gets tired she will take one ear and rub it along her face...kind of like a satin blanket most kids have called a silky. I think that Mr. Bunny loves Sienna just as much as she loves him.

NFR Weekend...

This was the our big Las Vegas NFR Weekend.
The rodeo was great and we always have great
seats. We are so thankful to have good friends
that consider us their 80th-something friend.
Thank you Keith Williams and Family for including us with your group.
We did miss Alan and Mindee this year, they were busy with a new little one as was Lisa and Mike. I guess Keith was busy helping out being grandpa...but we did enjoy Jared and Bailey.

I've Had A Request for More Baby Pictures...

Haley and Kelly finally got a chance to venture out from their home in St. George...last weekend
Jared and Susan brought the girls down to Mesquite to visit Grandma and Grandpa Christensen. I feel so blessed to have my arms full of two beautiful, beautiful babies. They are growing steadily and are now a little over 7 lbs.
They love to keep their mom and dad up all night (mostly just their mom). We are so excited for Christmas when they will be able to come home for the Holidays.
Sienna decided today to open the presents under the tree. Tara thought things were getting pretty quiet so she went to see what was going on and found Sienna opening presents. We have all been there with our own kids so it is just kind of fun to watch our kids go through Christmas with their kid.

When we got home from Mexico, they were having the grand opening for the new Conestoga Golf Course in Mesquite....so we decided to try the course out. What an amazing course!! Neither Mike or I are too good at golf but we decided we want to improve. (Really improve alot)

"The Twins Are Finally Home"

We are so happy to announce that the twins have finally come home. They were in the hospital for two months and now doing really well. I'm not sure you can say the same for the parents, though. Susan and Jared were so excited to have the girls home and be "Their Babies", they just didn't realize that their nights were going to be pacing the floor with the girls. The girls now weight 6 lbs 2 oz. and 6 lbs. 3 0z. They are just perfect!!!
Mike and I just returned from another trip to Mexico...the sad thing is that I left my camera in Mexico, so I don't have any pictures of our fishing. The fishing wasn't that great but what do they say about a bad day fishing is better than a good day in the office. Mark and Bonnie have a very nice home that they open up to us and their boat is awesome for fishing. Thank you, guys, for everything.

This is the latest pictures of Haley and Kelly. Aren't they bright eyed. Jared and Susan report that they are now 5 lbs. + I really can't wait till they get home and we can snuggle with them and really get to know them.

Sienna Turns "1"

Today Sienna had her first birthday...What a party!!! It never seem to amaze me how much a baby changes and learns in that first year of life. Their little personalities come out and they become real people; walking, talking, expressing their feelings, etc. OMG, I have learned that raising little ones is definately for the young. I told my kids that if they didn't get started having babies, I was going to be way too old to enjoy them. I am not there yet, because I am loving every minute that I get to spend time with them.

Haley and Kelly Christensen born 09-09-09. They weighed in at 2 lbs 12 oz and 2 lbs 14 oz. They are perfect and very healthy!!
